Mod GRF 1-29 and GHRP-2 are synthetic peptides being researched for their potential to stimulate the synthesis and secretion of growth hormone (GH). They are often studied together as a blend due to their proposed synergistic action.
1. Mechanisms of Action 🧪
The two peptides are hypothesized to act on two different receptors to stimulate GH release:
GHRP-2: This peptide is a Growth Hormone Secretagogue (GHS). It is believed to activate ghrelin receptors (also called Growth Hormone Secretagogue receptors, or GHS-Rs) in the pituitary gland. This action may lead to GH release and may also induce an increase in appetite.
Modified GRF 1-29: This peptide is an analog of Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone (GHRH). It is thought to act by engaging GHRH receptors on the pituitary gland's somatotroph cells. This interaction may trigger a signaling cascade that leads to the release of GH.
2. Research and Clinical Studies 🔬
Growth Hormone and IGF-1
GH Release: Studies suggest that GHRP-2 and Mod GRF 1-29 can individually stimulate GH release. When combined, they may have a synergistic effect, potentially leading to a much greater increase in GH levels than either peptide alone.
GH Deficiency: Research on young subjects with growth failure suggested that GHRP-2 was well-tolerated and appeared to stimulate a significant and sustained rise in GH levels.
Hormonal Effects: A study on GHRP-2 showed that it increased GH levels in both young and elderly subjects, though the effect was more pronounced in the younger group. It also appeared to stimulate a rise in ACTH and cortisol.
IGF-1 Levels: The blend is thought to upregulate IGF-1 (Insulin-like Growth Factor-1), which is a key anabolic mediator of GH. One trial suggested that a combination of a GHRH-mimetic and a GHS could result in a significant increase in IGF-1 levels.
Appetite and Metabolism 🍽️
Appetite Increase: Research suggests that the presence of GHRP-2 in the blend is likely responsible for an increase in appetite. In one clinical trial, subjects who received the peptide blend consumed about 35% more calories than the placebo group.
Metabolic Effects: A literature review on GHSs suggested they may lead to an increase in lean mass, a reduction in fat mass, and improved exercise tolerance.
