Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 (200mg)

$209.00$197.00

Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 is a synthetic peptide being researched for its potential to stimulate the synthesis of collagen and other components of the extracellular matrix (ECM), while also inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines. It is a synthetic analog of the natural matrikine peptide. Its structure is composed of four amino acids and a palmitoyl group, which is thought to increase its skin permeability. The peptide is being investigated for its potential to improve skin health, reduce wrinkles, and even mitigate certain oral conditions.

Research and Clinical Studies

Mechanism of Action & Skin Health

Research suggests that Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 may inhibit the activity of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), a group of enzymes that can degrade ECM proteins.

Image of the extracellular matrix

By doing so, it may help maintain the integrity of the ECM and promote the production of key components like collagen VII and laminins IV and V, which are essential for the structural stability of the skin's dermal-epidermal junction (3, 4).

The peptide is also thought to work by suppressing the production of interleukin-6 (IL-6), a pro-inflammatory cytokine. By reducing IL-6 levels, it may help diminish inflammation, particularly that caused by environmental stressors like UVB exposure (4). This anti-inflammatory action, combined with its potential for ECM repair, is being researched for its role in improving skin texture and reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

Wrinkle Reduction

Clinical studies on Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 have shown promising results in reducing wrinkles. In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, a cream containing the peptide appeared to reduce the depth and length of wrinkles over 12 weeks. The study also reported a significant increase in skin elasticity (6). In another study, fine wrinkles reportedly decreased by over 14% and skin elasticity increased by nearly 9% after four weeks of application (7).

Oral Health

Given its potential to inhibit MMP activity, research is also exploring the role of Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 in mitigating oral conditions. Excessive MMP activity can contribute to the destruction of periodontal tissues, which is a characteristic of diseases like periodontitis. The peptide's ability to inhibit these enzymes may potentially help preserve the integrity of the ECM in the oral cavity, which could slow the progression of such ailments (3).
