Testagen, also known as KEDG, is a synthetic tetrapeptide that is being researched for its potential to act as a bioregulator. It is designed to mimic the amino acid composition of extracts from the anterior pituitary gland and is being investigated for its possible effects on the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal and hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axes.

Research and Clinical Studies

Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal Axis

Testagen is being researched for its potential to upregulate testosterone production, particularly in models with chronic inflammation and low testosterone levels. Studies have suggested that the peptide may improve uroflowmetry indicators, reduce markers of inflammation in the prostate, and possibly lead to an elevation in total testosterone levels. While the exact mechanisms are not fully understood, some researchers hypothesize that the peptide may interact with histones to influence epigenetic mechanisms, which could affect gene expression and cellular activity (4, 5).

Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Thyroid Axis

In a study on avian models, Testagen was investigated for its potential to impact the functional activity and morphological structure of the thyroid gland. In models where the pituitary gland was disabled, Testagen exposure reportedly prevented the flattening of follicular epithelium and reduced the mean sectional area of follicles. In aged avian models, the peptide appeared to normalize thyroid gland weight and had a moderate stimulating impact on the proliferation of epithelial cells. However, the researchers noted that the effects were more pronounced in younger models (3).
