Thymagen, also known as Glu-Trp or Oglufanide, is a synthetic bioregulator peptide from the Khavinson group. It is an analog of thymalin, a polypeptide derived from the thymus, and is being researched for its potential immunomodulating properties, including its ability to possibly influence immune cell activity and cytokine production.

Research and Clinical Studies

Immune System Modulation

Research on Thymagen indicates its potential to influence various immune functions. It has been investigated for its possible effects on the ratio of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) to cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), which is a key regulator of immune responses, particularly in models of anaphylaxis (1).

Image of immune cells

Studies have also explored its immunoregulatory potential in models of bacterial and fungal infections. Thymagen has been suggested to reduce the spread of infectious agents and enhance nonspecific resistance in models of Yersinia enterocolitica infection (2). In models of candidiasis, it was reported to mitigate the severity of the infection by possibly activating the immunocompetent system (4).

Anti-Aging & Anti-Tumor

Thymagen has been researched for its potential anti-aging and anti-tumor effects. In a study on murine models exposed to radiation, the group also exposed to Thymagen appeared to have a reduced number of both total and malignant tumors, particularly in breast tissue. The study also posited that murine models exposed only to Thymagen, without radiation, appeared to have a longer lifespan and a lower overall occurrence of tumor cells (7).

Another study on models with solid tumors in the abdominal cavity and retroperitoneal space suggested that Thymagen may help restore the structural and functional parameters of cellular immunity, potentially reducing complications and shortening the recovery period after manual excision (8).
